Drift is a UK startup building AI-powered, wind-and-wave-routed sailing vessels that generate green hydrogen at sea, using onboard electrolysers powered by renewable energy harvested while the ship navigates toward optimal wind and wave conditions.
Its first vessel is designed to be 58 metres long, produce between 1-2MW of power and generate up to 150,000kg of hydrogen a year, with production beginning after the company closed a £4.65M seed round led by Octopus Ventures. Drift has also received Innovate UK funding through its Investor Partnership Programme as it moves from sea trials toward larger commercial vessels.
