The Company

Brineworks is a Dutch climate-tech company that extracts CO2 and hydrogen directly from seawater using proprietary electrochemistry, then converts them into sustainable e-fuels such as e-methanol, e-methane and e-diesel for the aviation and shipping industries.

Founded in 2023 by CEO Gudfinnur Sveinsson and CTO Dr Joseph Perryman, the Amsterdam-based startup is building a modular seawater electrolyzer designed to undercut existing direct air capture costs, targeting sub-$150/ton CO2 extraction. Brineworks raised a €6.8M round including a €5M seed led by SeaX Ventures and a €1.8M EIC Accelerator grant to scale its technology from prototype toward commercial pilots by the end of 2026.
