Armada Technologies has developed PALS (Passive Air Lubrication System), a novel hull air lubrication technology that reduces fuel consumption and emissions from ships by generating a continuous layer of bubbles beneath the hull using the vessel's own forward motion rather than compressors.
Based in Birkenhead, UK, the company closed a $3.2M seed round in 2024 backed by LNG carrier operator CoolCo, Future Planet Capital's Blue Ocean Fund, Founders Factory's Blue Action Accelerator, Oxford Seed Fund and Ecochlor. PALS is designed to adapt bubble production to a ship's speed, draft and operating conditions, offering shipping operators a lower-cost route to meeting tightening maritime emissions targets.
