Founded in London in 2017 by Gauthier Van Malderen and Matthew Davis, Perlego is a subscription library that gives students unlimited online access to more than 1 million academic and non-fiction titles from over 5,000 publishers, including Cambridge University Press, Routledge, Elsevier and Harvard University Press. Often described as the 'Spotify for textbooks', the platform has served hundreds of thousands of paying subscribers across more than 90 countries and is now expanding into AI-powered study tools such as its research assistant, Dialogo.
Perlego has raised a cumulative $75M, most recently a $20M round in 2024 led by Sir Terry Leahy.
