Metalchemy has developed a patented silver nanoparticle suspension, made with natural ingredients such as oregano extract, that acts as an antibacterial shield to extend the shelf life of perishable food across a range of packaging materials, adding roughly seven days to meat, five to cheese and four to fresh salad in trials. Led by co-founder and CEO Federico Trotta, the London-founded startup aims to cut food waste and the greenhouse gas emissions associated with it while improving access to fresher food.
Metalchemy has raised $1.87M to date, including a £750K Innovate UK grant for its 'Better Food For All' project, with backing from G-Force and Katapult VC, and won the PITCH competition at Web Summit Qatar.
