Founded and led by CEO Deimena Drasutyte, HerLab is a UK synthetic biology and AI startup discovering and engineering novel, high-performing yeasts and other underexplored microorganisms for scalable precision fermentation. Its platform aims to replace conventional industrial strains with better-suited, naturally occurring organisms to improve the efficiency and cost of fermentation-based protein and ingredient production.

The company has received early public funding from Innovate UK and leads a UK government-backed initiative on low-emission food production systems, and its founder was selected as the Good Food Institute's inaugural Entrepreneur in Residence.
