The Company

Founded in 2012 by Richard Vincent and Chris Scattergood, FundamentalVR builds immersive surgical training simulations that combine virtual reality with realistic haptic feedback, letting trainee surgeons feel the resistance of tissue, bone and instruments before ever touching a patient. Its Fundamental Surgery platform now covers disciplines including orthopaedics, ophthalmology, urology and endovascular surgery, and is used by hospitals, medtech companies and teaching institutions to standardise and scale surgical training.

The company closed a $20M Series B in 2022, led by EQT Life Sciences with participation from Downing Ventures, Tern and Sana Kliniken, taking total funding to more than $30M. FundamentalVR has used the investment to expand into new surgical specialties and deepen partnerships with hospital networks across Europe and the US.
