Ekion

Founded in Perth in 2023, Ekion has developed electrokinetic in-situ recovery (EK-ISR), a low-impact mining technology that uses an applied electric field to extract metals directly from stranded ore deposits without open-pit excavation, cutting waste and emissions while running on fully electric, intermittent-energy-compatible equipment.

The company was backed by the Rio Tinto and Founders Factory Mining Tech Accelerator in 2025, alongside investors including Creative Destruction Lab and BHP Invent, as it works to commercialise a lower-footprint alternative to conventional metal extraction.
