Founded in 2020 by Cat Jones, Byway is a flight-free travel platform that plans multi-stop European trips by train, bus and ferry as a genuine alternative to flying. Its AI-assisted planning tools work alongside a human concierge team, on hand over WhatsApp to help travellers book connections, accommodation and local experiences without the carbon cost of air travel.
Byway closed an oversubscribed €5.9M Series A in 2024, led by Heartcore Capital with participation from Eka Ventures and a syndicate of angel investors, to expand its technology and grow its team. The company positions sustainable, slow travel as mainstream rather than niche, aiming at travellers who want the adventure of an inter-railing trip without the planning overhead.
