The Company

Founded by biologist and ecologist Dr Katherine French out of her research at UC Berkeley and the Activate Fellowship, BluumBio develops microbial-based technologies that harness naturally occurring organisms to break down toxic pollutants in contaminated soil and water. Its proprietary BioDegra database identifies enzyme-producing microbes capable of degrading contaminants such as petroleum hydrocarbons, PFAS, PCBs and plastics, with reported breakdown rates of 70-99% in as little as two days for wastewater.

BluumBio raised a seed round backed by EQT Foundation and Plug and Play Tech Center to commercialise its petroleum remediation product and advance PFAS field trials.
