Founded in Barcelona in 2014 as Psious by Xavier Palomer Ripoll and Daniel Roig Canelles, the company rebranded to Amelia Virtual Care in 2022 under new CEO Afsana Akhter to reflect its position as a leading provider of comprehensive VR software for mental health professionals, helping simulate immersive environments for therapy sessions treating phobias, anxiety and PTSD.
It raised over $19M in total funding from investors including Asabys Partners, Caixa Capital Risc and Alantra. In 2023 Amelia Virtual Care merged with Boston-based XRHealth to create one of the largest XR therapeutics platforms, combining VR mental health and physical rehabilitation tools under a single roof.
